Having the good luck to live just over an hour’s ferry trip from Positano, a few days ago I went there to enjoy an off-season walk. This is the enchanting scenery that welcomes those who arrive by sea.
I have often asked myself what it would be like to leave the city and go to live in a village on the coast. You’d need very little to be happy here: waking up every morning with such a view
strolling up and down narrow streets and alleyways
among the shops with coloured "Positano fashion" clothes outside
and going home to cook with bags of shopping, slowly straining up the famous steps of Positano.
Positano, indeed, is called the vertical town, and I walked all over discovering the wonderful views. The houses seem to rise up from the water to form a picture of flowers and colours, a unique spectacle!
In the distance the Li Galli islands, once belonging to the Russian ballet dancer Nurayev, are now a nature reserve.
As in all coastal villages, also here there are lots of people already at the sea on the Main beach in the centre of Positano.
On the other side lies the Fornillo beach, which I heard is the most popular with the local people

On the road leading to the Fornillo beach, you’ll find another fortress, the Trasita Tower. Both of these towers were built to defend Positano against pirate raids.
Everywhere there is the azure, turquoise and emerald sea of the Amalfi Coast.
Here you’ll find the timetable of the ferries that connect Salerno to the Amalfi Coast.
