I told you in a previous post of my stay in Amalfi last March.
One morning, while I was on the seaside terrace of my room, I saw a boat pass on which a team of rowers were training. Immediately I realised they were the Amalfi crew for the historic regatta of the ancient maritime Republics.
The cox gave the rhythm to the rowers and the oars powered through the water.
Savouring the feeling of freedom experienced by those choosing the sea as a training camp, I felt on the same wavelength as the athletes. The sporting spirit touched me, giving me the desire to encourage the rowers.
And what joy, on the 3 June, when the Campania team triumphed at the historic regatta that was held right there in Amalfi!
A race with an exciting sprint against the Venetian boat in the final metres, the jubilation of the crowd and the happiness of the Amalfi crew who crossed the finishing line first, winning again after 11 years.
Congratulations to the athletes and see you at the next historic regatta.
